NEW DELHI, July 25 (V7N)— Indian Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has tendered his resignation following weeks of relentless nationwide protests over alleged question paper leaks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), NDTV reported.
Pradhan announced his decision via a post on social platform X on Saturday, coming just hours before a scheduled third round of talks between central government representatives and the protesting 'Cockroach Janata Party' (CJP).
In his statement, Pradhan wrote, "I have deep respect for the aspirations, feelings, and legitimate expectations of the youth of the country. Fulfilling the dreams of India's young generation is the moral resolve of our political and social life. I express my gratitude to the Prime Minister for giving me the opportunity to serve the country under visionary leadership."
The Education Minister's removal was the primary demand of student demonstrators who have been staging sit-ins at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for over a month. Earlier on Saturday morning, CJP leaders reaffirmed their unyielding stance, declaring that further dialogue with the central government could not proceed without Pradhan's step-down.
Beyond Pradhan’s resignation, the core demands of the student movement include complete immunity from legal action for all participating demonstrators and state compensation for the families of students who died by suicide following the NEET paper leak controversy.
