Washington, July 29 (V7N)- The United States military has claimed that it successfully intercepted an attempted Iranian missile attack targeting US forces stationed in the Middle East.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an apparent attempt to strike US military positions in the region. CENTCOM said all of the missiles were successfully intercepted, preventing any damage or casualties.

In a statement posted on social media, CENTCOM said US forces remain on high alert following the incident. The military also stated that no more than four ballistic missiles were launched during the attack.

The development comes after US President Donald Trump said that the United States had halted attacks on Iran and claimed that Tehran had expressed interest in holding talks with Washington.

However, Iran rejected that assertion. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghei said there are currently no discussions taking place between Iran and the United States.

The reported missile launch and the differing statements from Washington and Tehran highlight the continued tensions between the two countries and raise fresh concerns over regional security in the Middle East.
