Tehran, Aug 04 (V7N) – Iran is holding discussions with Oman to establish a temporary single shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran has clarified that no direct negotiations are currently taking place with the United States over the issue.
According to Al Jazeera, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday (August 3) that talks are underway to create a temporary maritime corridor by combining separate waterways controlled by Iran and Oman until a permanent agreement is reached.
Analysts believe the creation of a temporary shipping lane could become an initial confidence-building step between Iran and the United States amid ongoing tensions.
However, Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that Tehran is not engaged in direct talks with Washington regarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, several countries, including Qatar and Pakistan, are reportedly working behind the scenes to facilitate communication between Iran and the United States. The diplomatic efforts indicate that despite heightened military tensions, channels for dialogue remain open.
Iran, however, has maintained that its military preparedness remains unchanged. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said it is ready to respond to any potential threats.
On the other hand, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has stated that American forces are prepared to ensure the security of commercial shipping and maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The strategic waterway remains a key point of tension between Tehran and Washington due to its importance in global energy transportation and regional security.
