Tehran, Aug 13 (V7N)- The Strait of Hormuz, a strategically vital waterway for global energy transportation, is under the “full control and management” of Iran, the head of the country’s paramilitary Basij Organization, Hojatoleslam Hossein Tayeb, has claimed.
Tayeb, commander of the Basij Force affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), made the remarks on Thursday, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency.
“Today you can clearly see that the Strait of Hormuz is under the control and management of the Islamic Republic,” Tayeb was quoted as saying.
He also claimed that Iran is continuing its activities safely and independently and said the United States has witnessed the “true power” of the Islamic Revolution.
The statement directly contradicts a recent claim by US President Donald Trump. Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social that the strategic waterway is now under US control.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy routes, through which a significant portion of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments traditionally pass.
The conflicting claims come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran and growing concerns over the security of commercial shipping through the waterway.
