Tehran, Aug 13 (V7N)- Iran has said that there has been no progress in efforts to revive an interim peace agreement with the United States, despite negotiations being conducted through mediators, Reuters reported.
A senior Iranian official said talks are underway through mediators to bring the United States back to the June agreement and establish a deadline for implementing its terms. However, no progress has been made so far, the official said.
An interim ceasefire agreement was reached between Washington and Tehran in June, calling for an immediate and permanent halt to military operations on all fronts. However, the agreement soon collapsed.
On July 7, US President Donald Trump declared the agreement “finished.” A week later, Iran's Foreign Ministry also said the agreement had been suspended.
The United States has accused Iran of failing to fulfill its commitment to reopen the Strait of Hormuz under the agreement. Iran, however, says Washington has failed to meet its own obligations, particularly promises to lift the blockade on Iranian ports and release frozen Iranian assets.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (August 12), Trump claimed that the United States has “total control” of the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Truth Social, he also criticized Iran, saying that Tehran only talks but takes no action.
Iranian authorities responsible for the strategic waterway, however, maintain that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and will not be reopened until Tehran's conditions are met.
