Kolkata, Aug 19 (V7N)- At least nine Bangladeshis have been killed in a devastating fire at a residential hotel in Kolkata’s New Market area.

The fire broke out on the third floor of the residential hotel ‘Shikhail’ on Free School Street in the early hours of Wednesday (August 19), local time.

After receiving the information, police and fire service personnel quickly reached the scene and launched a rescue operation.

Fifteen other people were rescued from the hotel with burn injuries. They are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Two women and a child are among those killed in the fire.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.

Police have filed a case against the hotel owner in connection with the incident. He has reportedly been absconding since the fire broke out. Police have also conducted a search of his residence as part of the investigation.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly fire.
