Islamabad, Aug 21 (V7N)- Imprisoned former Pakistani Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been shifted from prison to a hospital under heavy security.

He was taken to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad late Thursday (August 20) in a large police convoy.

The surrounding area of the hospital was sealed off before his arrival. More than 800 personnel from the police, prison authorities, paramilitary Pakistan Rangers and the local administration were deployed to ensure security.

Senior police officials also inspected the hospital’s security arrangements ahead of the former prime minister’s arrival.

Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered authorities to transfer Imran Khan to a hospital within 48 hours for necessary medical examinations.

The government challenged the order, but the Supreme Court rejected the challenge.

The 73-year-old former prime minister has been imprisoned since August 2023. His party leaders, supporters and family members have repeatedly expressed concern over his health.

Imran Khan is facing multiple legal cases, including cases related to corruption involving state gifts and an allegedly unlawful marriage. Although convictions in some cases have subsequently been overturned, several cases against him remain pending.
