Washington, Sep 1 (V7N)- The US State Department has approved a potential deal to sell nearly $800 million worth of helicopters and related military equipment to Iraq.
The US authorities announced the approval in a statement on Monday (August 31), saying Texas-based aerospace and defense company Bell Textron would serve as the prime contractor for the proposed deal.
According to the statement, the United States is pursuing its foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the defense capabilities of strategic partner countries.
If finalized, the deal is expected to enhance Iraq's military capabilities, particularly in conducting military operations, intelligence, surveillance and precision air operations.
The equipment is also expected to strengthen Iraq's ability to respond to potential security threats in the future.
US officials said the proposed sale would support Iraq's security capabilities while further strengthening defense cooperation between Washington and Baghdad.
