Kathmandu, Sep 01 (V7N)- The death toll from last week's devastating landslides and flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border has surpassed 1,000, while more than 4,400 people remain missing, according to authorities.
CNN reported the latest figures on Tuesday morning, as rescue and search operations continued across the disaster-hit areas.
Rescue teams are working through collapsed structures, debris and remote mountainous regions in search of survivors and missing people. Authorities are also carrying out efforts to identify those who have died in the disaster.
Amid the destruction, stories of extraordinary courage and survival are also emerging.
Five-year-old Manisha Magar was initially presumed dead after being swept away by the powerful floodwaters. Her parents later saw a video showing their daughter being rescued, bringing an unexpected moment of relief amid the devastation.
Meanwhile, Nepal's first female helicopter pilot, Priya Adhikari, has carried out around 100 rescue missions in less than a week. She has been flying to remote and severely affected areas to evacuate survivors and assist those stranded by the floods and landslides.
Authorities say search and rescue operations will continue as teams work to locate thousands of people still missing following the disaster.
