Tehran, Sep 09 (V7N)- Iran's military preparedness to protect the strategically important Strait of Hormuz is the result of decades of planning, not merely efforts made over the past few years, former IRGC Brigadier General Esmail Kosari has said.
Kosari, a member of Iran's Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), made the remarks in an interview with Iran's Student News Network.
He said Iranian armed forces and the IRGC have spent years developing defensive systems and operational strategies in anticipation of possible foreign military intervention in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Kosari, the foundation for these preparations was laid toward the end of the Iran-Iraq War. Since then, Iranian forces have gradually strengthened their defensive positions and developed military plans aimed at responding quickly to potential foreign military threats.
He claimed that Iran's long-term strategic preparations have enabled its armed forces to respond rapidly to threats around the Strait of Hormuz.
The remarks come amid heightened military tensions in and around the strategic waterway, through which a significant portion of global oil and gas supplies passes.
