Washington, Sep 17 (V7N)- The United States has again refused to grant a visa to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to attend the United Nations General Assembly, according to Al Jazeera.
AFP reported the development on Thursday, citing a source familiar with the matter.
The decision means Abbas has been denied the opportunity to attend the UN's annual gathering in person for a second consecutive year.
Last year, after UN member states approved his participation, Abbas delivered his address to the General Assembly via video link instead of attending the session in person.
The US State Department said visa restrictions have also been extended to officials of the Palestinian Authority and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Washington has accused the Palestinian officials and the PLO of failing to carry out necessary reforms and undermining prospects for peace.
The latest decision comes ahead of the annual UN General Assembly, where the Palestinian issue is expected to remain a major topic of international discussion.
