Washington, Sep 21 (V7N)- US President Donald Trump has said he is in a “decision mode” over Iran and warned that “something very big” could happen in the near future.
Trump made the remarks during a phone interview with Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst on Sunday (September 20), according to reports citing the interview.
According to Yingst’s account, Trump said he was considering several options in dealing with Tehran, including increased economic pressure, a negotiated agreement and military action.
Trump also warned that Iran would face serious consequences if it did not change its behavior. His remarks included a reference to the possibility of a major military escalation.
At the same time, Trump left open the possibility of meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Asked whether he would meet Pezeshkian, Trump indicated that he was probably open to such a meeting, according to Yingst.
Pezeshkian is scheduled to attend the UN General Assembly this week, while Trump is also due to address the gathering. The possibility of direct contact between the two leaders has drawn attention amid the continuing confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
There was no immediate response from the Iranian government or Pezeshkian to Trump’s comments about a possible meeting.
Trump’s remarks come as diplomatic efforts and military tensions surrounding Iran continue ahead of the UN General Assembly, with both sides publicly maintaining sharply different positions on the conflict.
