Washington, Oct 02 (V7N)- The United States may ask European countries to release diesel from their national emergency reserves as the ongoing conflict involving Iran puts sustained pressure on the global fuel supply system.

US President Donald Trump indicated the possibility on Thursday while speaking to reporters at the White House. Asked whether Washington would request European allies to release stockpiled diesel to help ease rising fuel prices, Trump said , “We might make such a request. They have adequate reserves of diesel.”

The disruption linked to the Iran conflict has intensified pressure on international fuel markets, with refined petroleum products, particularly diesel, facing sharp price increases.

The situation has raised concerns over the impact of higher fuel costs on economies worldwide and prompted discussions about using strategic fuel reserves to ease supply pressures and contain domestic price increases.

Trump also said efforts were underway to bring commodity prices under control. He maintained that the confrontation involving Iran could be resolved soon and argued that an end to the military conflict would lead to a significant decline in international fuel prices.

European governments have yet to indicate whether they would release diesel from their strategic reserves in response to any request from Washington.
