Tehran, Oct 05 (V7N)- Iran has summoned Norway's ambassador in Tehran to protest what it described as Oslo's failure to stop unauthorized Starlink satellite internet operations in Iranian territory.

Iranian state-run Press TV reported that the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Norwegian Ambassador Pål Bjornstad on Sunday and handed him a formal letter of protest.

According to the report, Mohammad Hassannejad Pirkouhi, director general at Iran's Foreign Ministry, raised the issue with the Norwegian envoy during the meeting.

Pirkouhi alleged that Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by Elon Musk's SpaceX, is being systematically misused by the United States and Israel as part of what he described as an interventionist agenda against Iran.

The Iranian official also accused Norway of failing to meet its obligations as a country associated with the registration of Starlink services with the United Nations' International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Pirkouhi said decisions by the ITU's Radio Regulations Board require Norway to take measures against what Tehran considers unauthorized Starlink transmissions operating over Iranian territory.

He claimed Iran had repeatedly asked Norway to take action against the transmissions, which Tehran says threaten its national security and territorial sovereignty.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Norway's failure to act has allowed what Tehran considers unauthorized Starlink operations to continue inside Iran.

The dispute comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and Western countries, with Tehran increasingly raising concerns over foreign technology and communications systems operating within its territory.
