Riyadh, Oct 12 (V7N)- The Saudi-led military coalition has said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels toward southern Saudi Arabia.

The coalition announced the interception on Monday (October 12).

Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said in a social media post that the missile was targeting the southern Saudi city of Khamis Mushait. Saudi air defense systems detected and destroyed the missile before it reached its target, he said.

The incident comes amid growing concerns over regional security following a series of reported attacks on Saudi airports and other installations.

The latest missile launch also highlights continuing tensions between Yemen's Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran, and the Saudi-led coalition.
