Washington, Oct 25 (V7N)- US Senator Chris Van Hollen has warned that President Donald Trump’s military campaign against Iran risks drawing the United States into another prolonged conflict, calling for an immediate end to the war.
In a post on social media platform X, Van Hollen wrote, “Trump’s illegal Iran war is becoming our next permanent war.”
The senator also shared a report discussing a possible new US-Israeli attack on Iran following the US midterm elections.
Van Hollen argued that, after eight months of conflict, Trump and Republicans were mistakenly assuming that further military strikes or a renewed bombing campaign would ultimately secure victory.
“Eight months have passed. Trump and the Republicans have deluded themselves into thinking that another attack or a new bombing campaign will ultimately bring victory,” he wrote.
Drawing parallels with previous US military engagements, including the Vietnam War and the Iraq War, Van Hollen warned that history demonstrated the potential consequences of prolonged military campaigns.
“We know what the consequences of such wars have been from Vietnam to Iraq. This war must be stopped now,” he said.
His remarks highlight concerns among critics of the campaign that continued military action could lead to an extended conflict and further regional instability.
The report shared by Van Hollen discussed the possibility of another attack after the midterm elections but did not provide details confirming a decision by the Trump administration to launch a new military operation against Iran.
