Washington, Oct 27 (V7N)- The United States has maintained its position on Iran, with Washington yet to issue a direct response to a meeting of countries associated with the ‘Mecca Pact’ held in Tehran, Al Jazeera has reported.

US officials said President Donald Trump continues to make decisions regarding the situation with Iran and will determine the next course of action based on what he considers to be in the best interests of the United States.

According to US officials, economic sanctions and a naval blockade have inflicted severe damage on Iran’s economy, with Washington maintaining that the pressure campaign is achieving its intended objectives.

The officials also claimed that Operation Epic Fury has significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities. They said Iran’s army has been severely incapacitated, its navy has been destroyed, and its air force and air defence systems are no longer operational.

However, the military assessments and claims regarding the extent of the damage to Iran’s armed forces have not been independently verified in the information cited.

Washington has not indicated any change in its approach to Tehran, while President Trump retains the authority to determine the administration’s next steps amid continuing tensions between the two countries.
