Heo Eun-joo, Regional Director of the Global Region 3 of the International Women's Peace Group (IWPG), emphasized the pivotal role of women as symbols of social solidarity during an online ceremony on Saturday evening. The event, organized by the IWPG under the theme "Women achieving peace that the world needs," marked the 5th commemoration of April 26 as "International Women's Peace Day."
With over 132 representatives from eight countries, including the Republic of Korea, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Sao Tome and Principe, participating in the online program, the IWPG reiterated its commitment to realizing peace and passing it down as a legacy to future generations.
IWPG Chairwoman Hyun-sook stressed the importance of global peace, urging collective efforts to transform the long-cherished dream of peace into reality. She emphasized peace as the cornerstone of human life and called for unified action towards achieving a world free from conflict.
Jung Ju Won, Chairwoman of the Association for Childhood Residents in Geoje of Korea, expressed optimism that the IWPG's peace initiatives would contribute to fostering peace in their country. She highlighted the essential role of women in Korea's peaceful unification and emphasized the potential of women's unity to promote world peace and the unification of the two Koreas.
Speakers from India and Bangladesh, including Daybatta Chavan Batil and Jannatul Bakia Sweety, echoed the sentiment of women's empowerment in promoting peace and emphasized the need for collective action to advance peace efforts globally.
The IWPG, an international Women’s Peace Group registered with the UN DCG and UN ECOSOC, continues to actively advocate for various peace initiatives, including the International Women Peace Network and the promotion of peace culture. Collaborating with UN women organizations, the IWPG is steadfast in urging the legislation of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) to foster a more peaceful world.
