The death toll from the Israeli missile attack on a refugee camp in Rafah, southern Gaza, has increased to 45, according to Qatar-based news outlet Al Jazeera. The attack, which occurred on Sunday evening, has also left 249 people injured.
The airstrike set fire to the shelter camp’s tents, resulting in the horrific deaths of women and children trapped inside. The continued Israeli offensive has further compounded the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Al Jazeera reports that the Indonesian hospital in West Rafah has sustained significant damage, particularly on its upper floors. This has severely hampered medical operations and ambulance access, complicating efforts to treat the injured. The Indonesian hospital was the last remaining functional medical facility in Rafah after earlier attacks.
Previously, the Kuwaiti hospital in Rafah was forced to shut down following an Israeli attack that killed two medical workers and injured several others. The continued bombardment has strained medical facilities and personnel, making it increasingly difficult to provide necessary care to the wounded.
This escalation in violence highlights the urgent need for a ceasefire and renewed efforts towards a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
