The United States has labeled Algeria's proposal to the UN Security Council for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a cessation of Israeli attacks as unbalanced. White House Security Adviser John Kirby expressed this view on Wednesday, May 29, as reported by the AP news agency.

Algeria's draft proposal follows the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling last week, which called on Israel to halt its operations in Rafah and take additional measures to end the fighting. The draft was crafted in response to this judgment, aiming to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

However, the US criticized the draft, arguing that it failed to assign any blame to Hamas for the crisis in Gaza, thus making it unbalanced. Kirby stated that the US is still in the process of reviewing the proposal.

Despite the ICJ's directive, Israeli forces continue their operations in Rafah, a city that houses half of Gaza's 2.3 million residents. The ongoing conflict in Rafah has drawn significant international concern and condemnation.
