Dhaka, Aug 06 (V7N) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has announced that the 13th National Parliamentary Elections will be held in the first half of February 2026, with the Election Commission (EC) already initiating preparations for the polls.
Speaking at a press conference at the Election Commission headquarters on Wednesday afternoon, the CEC said, “We are expecting to receive an official letter from the Chief Advisor shortly to proceed with the election schedule. The Commission is committed to ensuring a participatory and credible election, unlike the previous three controversial polls.”
Highlighting the need for cooperation, the CEC urged the administration and all political parties to come forward and contribute to creating a level playing field. He assured that the EC would take all necessary steps to ensure a free, fair, and inclusive electoral process.
Addressing concerns about the participation of the Awami League, he said, “All political activities of the party remain prohibited due to ongoing legal proceedings. The Election Commission will make a final decision regarding their participation only after the trial concludes.”
The CEC also announced initiatives to allow 8 to 10 lakh professionals — including law enforcement personnel and journalists — to vote via postal ballots, a group that had been historically excluded due to their election-day duties.
On the use of technology, CEC Nasir stated that the EC is looking to adopt international best practices to prevent misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in election campaigns and ensure digital integrity.
He also expressed optimism regarding the law and order situation, stating that the condition of security forces has improved, and further improvements are expected in the coming months.
