Rajshahi, Aug 19 (V7N) — A Japanese business delegation met Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md Mahfuzur Rahman Riton on Tuesday to discuss potential Japanese investment in Rajshahi and opportunities to recruit skilled workers from the city for employment in Japan.
The meeting was held at the administrator’s office at Nagar Bhaban in the morning. At the beginning of the meeting, the city corporation administrator welcomed the Japanese delegation with flowers.
The discussions covered several areas of potential cooperation, including employment opportunities in Japan for skilled workers from Rajshahi, mango processing, cold-storage facilities for preserving agricultural products, healthcare services, Japanese-language education, information technology and investment.
The possibility of establishing a sister-city relationship between Rajshahi City and a Japanese city was also discussed positively.
The administrator said Rajshahi had significant potential in education, agriculture, healthcare, information technology and skilled human resources. He expressed optimism that cooperation with Japan could create new opportunities for investment, employment and technological development in the city.
He also highlighted the potential for developing skilled workers through training programmes and creating employment opportunities in Japan, particularly in sectors relevant to Rajshahi. He said cooperation in agricultural product processing, especially mango processing, could also contribute to the region’s economic development.
The administrator said Rajshahi City Corporation was interested in working with Japanese partners subject to approval from the relevant authorities of the Bangladesh government and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, as well as compliance with existing laws and regulations.
The Japanese delegation included Kawamoto Yasuhiro, Chief Executive Officer of Japan Group; Yuta Shigemori, Representative Director of General Incorporated Association Hummingbird; Seiji Ishimoto, Executive Director of West Okayama Medical Clinic and Chief Executive Officer of Handson Land; and Md Ziaul Karim of the International Department of Okayama Business College. Professor Abu Sayeed of the Department of Marketing at the University of Rajshahi was also present.
Rajshahi City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Md Rezaul Karim, Secretary Sohel Rana, Executive Magistrate Nazmul Alam, Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Md Mamun, Supervising Engineer Khairul Baker, Acting Supervising Engineer Ahmad Al Moin, Budget and Accounts Officer Shafiqul Islam Khan and other senior officials were also present.
The meeting followed an earlier visit by a Japanese business delegation on June 20, when the delegation met the city corporation administrator and expressed interest in recruiting skilled workers from Rajshahi for employment in Japan and exploring investment opportunities in various sectors.
