At least 22 people have died in the past 36 hours due to extreme heat in the Indian states of Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand, according to multiple media reports, including the Times of India.
Authorities confirmed that Odisha experienced the highest toll, with 10 fatalities, including six women, attributed to heatstroke. In Bihar, 10 more deaths were reported, while the remaining casualties occurred in Jharkhand.
The regions affected have recorded average temperatures reaching up to 45 degrees Celsius. Numerous individuals have been hospitalized after falling ill from the oppressive heat.
This extreme weather is part of a broader heatwave gripping various parts of India. Delhi recorded an unprecedented temperature of over 53 degrees Celsius, the highest in recent days.
Officials continue to monitor the situation, urging residents to stay hydrated and take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses as the sweltering conditions persist.
