UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has recognized Bangladesh as an important partner of the United Nations, highlighting its substantial contributions to the organization's activities. Guterres made these remarks during a meeting with Bangladesh's Foreign Minister, Hasan Mahmud, on Thursday afternoon.

In their discussion, Guterres praised the dedication and professionalism of Bangladeshi peacekeepers. Earlier in the day, he served as the chief guest at a joint reception hosted by Bangladesh and Austria at the UN headquarters to mark the International Day of Peacekeepers. He commended the Bangladeshi peacekeepers for their sincere and devoted service in various missions around the world.

Additionally, Foreign Minister Mahmud briefed the ambassadors of allied countries on the Rohingya crisis during a session at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference room at the UN headquarters. The briefing aimed to update the international community on the current situation and seek further support for the Rohingya refugees.

Guterres's comments underscore Bangladesh's significant role within the UN framework, particularly in peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts.
