The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is intensifying, with increasing numbers of impoverished residents, particularly children and the elderly, dying from lack of food. The United Nations issued a stark warning about the worsening situation, which was reported by The Guardian on Sunday.

The UN emphasized that the situation will continue to deteriorate unless substantial aid is secured promptly. Recent months have seen a significant reduction in the flow of relief into Gaza, with the number of aid trucks dropping from about 200 per day in April to just 58 last month, representing a decrease of nearly 70 percent since October.

The already dire conditions have been exacerbated by continued Israeli military operations in the region. Despite a ban by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Israeli forces conducted an operation in the city of Rafah, leading to further deterioration. A recent attack on a refugee camp resulted in at least 45 fatalities and over 200 injuries.

Since the conflict's escalation on October 7, at least 36,379 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza due to Israeli operations, with 82,407 others injured. In contrast, Hamas attacks have resulted in the deaths of 1,138 Israelis.

The UN's urgent appeal for aid highlights the critical need for international assistance to mitigate the famine and provide much-needed relief to the suffering population of Gaza.
