Riyadh, June 15, 2024 — The Saudi Ministry of Defense has launched a 24-hour air ambulance service to ensure the health and safety of pilgrims during the Holy Hajj. Dubbed the 'Kingdom Air Ambulance,' this service aims to provide swift medical assistance to those in need, Arab News reported on Saturday.

The air ambulance service was officially initiated on Friday, marking a significant step in the provision of healthcare during Hajj. Several patients were successfully transported to hospitals on the first day of operations. The service is part of a broader effort to enhance medical support for the millions of pilgrims gathering in Mina, often referred to as the city of tents due to the vast number of temporary accommodations set up for the event.

A unit from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority is responsible for coordinating the ambulance services, rescuing sick passengers, and ensuring their prompt transfer to medical facilities. Among the first beneficiaries was a 60-year-old African man who experienced severe chest pains. "I was having severe chest pains when a Red Crescent team quickly arrived and took me in an air ambulance. I reached the hospital in a moment," he recounted.

The initiative underscores the Kingdom's commitment to providing comprehensive medical care to pilgrims, ensuring their safety and well-being during one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. The Ministry of Defense has also deployed additional resources and personnel to support this effort, reflecting the importance placed on the health and safety of all attendees.
