London, 06 July 2024- The Labour Party has won the general election, signaling a significant shift in the UK’s political landscape. Party leader Sir Keir Starmer has been appointed as the new Prime Minister. Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak resigned from the post of Prime Minister after meeting with King Charles on Friday, July 5.

Following Sunak's resignation, Keir Starmer met with the King, who invited him to form the government. After returning from Buckingham Palace, Prime Minister Starmer immediately began forming his cabinet. Several key appointments have already been announced.

Labour MP Angela Rayner has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister. In addition to this role, she will serve as Secretary of the Department for Leveling Up, Housing, and Communities. David Lammy has been appointed Foreign Minister, while Rachel Reeves will take on the role of Finance Minister.

Ed Miliband has been assigned the role of Energy Minister. Brigitte Philipson and Wes Streeting have been appointed as Education Secretary and Health Secretary, respectively. Yvette Cooper has been appointed Home Secretary, and John Healey will serve as Defense Secretary. Shabana Mahmood has been named Justice Minister.

Jonathan Reynolds has been appointed Minister of Commerce, Peter Kyle will lead the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology, and Louise Haigh has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport. Liz Kendall will serve as Minister for Work and Pensions.

The Labour Party secured 412 out of 650 seats in the elections held on July 4. The Conservative Party won 121 seats. A party needs 326 seats for a majority in the House of Commons, the lower house of Parliament.

The newly formed government under Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to address key issues facing the nation and implement the Labour Party's agenda.
