Sao Paulo, 06 July 2024 - A tragic road accident in the state of Sao Paulo has left at least 10 people dead and 42 others injured. The incident occurred on Friday, July 5, near the town of Itapetininga, approximately 170 kilometers west of the state capital, Sao Paulo. 

Local authorities reported that the passenger bus was en route to Aparecida from the Itapeva region when it collided with a bridge pillar shortly after midnight local time. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, and the injured passengers were transported to hospitals in Itapetininga and the neighboring town of Sorocaba for treatment. 

The authorities have confirmed these details in a statement, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses. This tragic incident highlights the ongoing challenges of road safety in the region.
