Moscow, 06 July 2024 - Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his congratulations to Iran's newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian. According to a report by the Moscow Times on Saturday, July 6, Putin was the first world leader to acknowledge Pezeshkian's victory.

In his congratulatory message, Putin expressed his hope for strengthened bilateral relations between Russia and Iran under Pezeshkian's leadership. "I hope that your activities as president will contribute to strengthening constructive bilateral cooperation between our peoples," Putin stated.

Pezeshkian secured over 16 million votes, accounting for approximately 54 percent of the total votes cast. His opponent, Saeed Jalili, received 44 percent of the votes in the closely watched election.
