London, 10 July - Tulip Siddique, daughter of Sheikh Rehana, granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and younger sister of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been appointed as the City Minister of the United Kingdom. This announcement, reported by Bloomberg on Tuesday, July 9, marks a historic moment as Siddique becomes the first person of Bangladeshi origin to hold a cabinet position in the UK.

In her new role, Siddique will also serve as the financial supervisor of the office, taking on significant responsibilities within the government.

Siddique's political career has been marked by impressive achievements. She was recently re-elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for London's Hampstead and Kilburn constituency from the Labour Party, securing her fourth consecutive term in the general election held last Thursday. The 41-year-old politician won by a substantial margin, garnering 15,000 more votes than her nearest rival from the Conservative Party.

Tulip Siddique first became an MP in 2015 and has consistently served the Labour Party since then. In the previous parliament, she held the position of shadow minister, gaining international recognition for her maiden speech in the House of Commons.
