Washington, D.C., July 25 — The campaign team of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has lodged a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against Vice President Kamala Harris regarding the management of election funds. This comes amid ongoing strategies by Trump to counter Harris’s candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections. Despite these efforts, recent opinion polls indicate Harris maintains an edge over Trump.

Following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race, Kamala Harris gained control over Biden’s campaign funds. She has since garnered substantial support from Democratic Party delegates.

David Warrington, the general counsel for Trump's campaign, filed the complaint with the FEC. The complaint argues that the campaign committee cannot legally change its name from "Biden for President" to "Harris for President" after Biden's exit. It alleges that Harris misappropriated funds from Biden’s campaign for her own use. The eight-page complaint claims that Harris received financial donations improperly from another presidential candidate.

According to campaign finance rules, candidates who withdraw from the race are prohibited from making substantial contributions to other candidates. Warrington claims Harris’s actions constitute the largest campaign finance violation in American history. The FEC has yet to issue a comment on the complaint.

Despite these allegations, Harris remains strong in public opinion polls. The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Harris leading Trump. Fifty-six percent of registered voters believe the 59-year-old Harris is "mentally competent and able to face challenges," compared to 49 percent who believe the same about the 78-year-old Trump.

The Trump campaign suggests that Harris’s recent surge in popularity may be due to media coverage portraying her as the new Democratic candidate.
