Crimea, August 3 — Ukraine's military has announced that it successfully attacked and destroyed a Russian Kilo-class submarine, *The Rostov-on-Don*, anchored in the Crimean Peninsula's port city of Sevastopol. The incident reportedly took place on Friday, as per a statement released by Ukraine's General Staff.

The Rostov-on-Don, officially launched in 2014, was one of four Russian submarines stationed in the Black Sea, known for their capability to launch Caliber cruise missiles. Ukrainian military sources assert that the submarine sank following the attack.

While Ukrainian officials celebrate the strike, the Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the alleged incident.

In addition to the submarine, Ukrainian officials claim that four Russian S-400 air defense systems in Crimea were also destroyed in the operation. The Crimean Peninsula, including Sevastopol, has been under Russian control since its annexation in 2014.

The Rostov-on-Don had previously been reported as "probably seriously damaged" by a missile attack in September of last year, according to UK intelligence officials. At the time of the most recent attack, the submarine was reportedly undergoing maintenance at the Sevastopol Shipyard. The Ukrainian military stated that the submarine had recently been refurbished and tested, estimating its value at approximately three hundred million dollars.

This latest development adds to the growing tensions and ongoing conflict in the region, with significant strategic and symbolic implications for both Ukraine and Russia.
