Kyiv, August 27 — Less than 24 hours after a barrage of Russian missiles and drones struck Ukraine, Russian forces have launched another series of attacks. The latest assault, using a mix of drones and missiles, has resulted in the deaths of four people and injuries to at least 16 others, according to reports by Al Jazeera.
On Tuesday, a missile attack on a hotel in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih claimed the lives of two individuals. In addition, two others were killed in a drone strike in the eastern city of Zaporizhia. At least 16 people have been reported injured from these attacks, and they have been transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a statement on social media platform X, condemned the attacks and vowed accountability. "We will undoubtedly hold Russia accountable for this and all other attacks," he said. "There will be no immunity for crimes against humanity."
Rescue operations continue in the regions affected by both Monday night’s and Tuesday’s attacks. Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, noting the unfortunate fatalities despite the efforts of Ukraine’s air defense systems.
The attacks follow a major offensive on Monday, during which Russian forces fired hundreds of missiles and nearly 100 explosive-laden drones at various towns and villages across Ukraine. Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk reported that Russia launched 127 missiles and 109 drones on Monday. Oleshchuk claimed on Telegram that Ukrainian forces successfully shot down 102 missiles and destroyed 99 drones in what he described as the largest air strike on Ukraine to date.
The United States and several European nations have condemned the recent Russian attacks. However, the Russian government has defended its actions, asserting that the primary targets were Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and military installations, not civilian areas.
The situation remains tense as Ukrainian forces and civilians brace for potential further assaults from Russian forces.
