Imprisoned former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan voted through postal ballot. He cast his vote from Adiala Jail on Thursday.

This information was reported by the Pakistan-based newspaper The Dawn citing relevant sources.

According to the report, Imran Khan voted through postal ballot from Adiala Jail. Apart from Imran Khan, jailed former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former Punjab chief minister Chowdhury Parvez Elahi, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid and former information minister Fawad Chowdhury voted through e-mail.

Though Imran Khan could vote but his wife Bushra Bibi could not vote. Because the process of postal voting was over before he was convicted and arrested. Bushra Bibi is now imprisoned in Imran Khan's residence 'Bani Gala' in Islamabad. Authorities have declared the residence as a sub-jail.

Less than 100 inmates in Adiala Jail were able to vote. Which is only one percent of the total inmates of the prison. Currently, the prison has 7000 inmates.

The Dawn reported, quoting sources, that the jail administration has allowed only those inmates who have a valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) to vote. Since most of the prisoners do not have original CNICs, the number of people voting in postal ballots has also decreased.
