New York, Sep 12 (V7N) – Tyrese Devon Haspil, the former assistant of Bangladeshi-born entrepreneur Fahim Saleh, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the brutal murder of his employer. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced the sentencing on Tuesday, following Haspil's conviction last year for both the murder and theft of $4 million from Saleh's business.

Fahim Saleh, a co-founder of the Bangladeshi ride-sharing app Pathao and Nigeria's Gokada, was murdered in his Manhattan apartment in July 2020. The court heard that Haspil, who had been working as Saleh’s assistant, killed him to avoid being reported to law enforcement for embezzling money from Saleh’s business.

The horrific crime took place on July 13, 2020, when Haspil, dressed in a black suit and mask, entered Saleh's flat and murdered him. The brutal nature of the crime shocked investigators, who found Fahim’s dismembered body inside the apartment along with an electric saw. The crime scene revealed a premeditated attempt to cover up the murder.

Fahim Saleh, a graduate of Bentley University in Waltham, had made a name for himself as a tech entrepreneur. He started coding and building apps from a young age and was instrumental in launching ride-sharing services not only in Bangladesh and Nigeria but also in Colombia.

The sentencing marks the end of a tragic chapter for the family of Fahim Saleh, who had risen to prominence in the global tech scene before his untimely and violent death.
