Hong Kong, Sep 18 (V7N) – A Bangladeshi passenger on a Cathay Pacific Airways flight from Dhaka to Hong Kong tragically passed away mid-air on Wednesday morning. The 47-year-old man lost consciousness during the flight and was declared dead by medical personnel shortly after the plane landed in Hong Kong.

According to a statement from Hong Kong Police, they were alerted to the situation at around 8 am local time after receiving a report of the passenger fainting on board flight CX662, which departed from Dhaka at 2 pm Bangladesh time. The flight landed at Hong Kong International Airport at 7:49 am.

Cathay Pacific said that the passenger was discovered unconscious during a routine pre-landing check by cabin crew. An ambulance was called immediately, and medical personnel were on hand when the plane touched down. Unfortunately, the doctors declared the passenger dead upon arrival.

Hong Kong authorities confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.

This incident is the latest in a series of mid-air medical emergencies involving Cathay Pacific flights. Earlier this month, a 71-year-old German passenger died on a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Mumbai, while another 47-year-old Vietnamese woman passed away on a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Seoul.

Dr. Yang Siu-ming, a member of the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine, advised that passengers with underlying cardiovascular or respiratory conditions should consult their doctors before travelling by air. He also recommended that long-haul passengers stretch their legs and move around every couple of hours to prevent conditions like deep vein thrombosis.

Cathay Pacific has since urged passengers to immediately notify cabin crew if they feel unwell during a flight. The airline expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and is fully cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
