Washington, Sep 21 (V7N) — An official of the Indian Embassy in Washington was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the embassy premises on Wednesday. Local authorities, including the Washington police and the Secret Service, are currently investigating the incident. Initial reports suggest that the official may have died by suicide, though no confirmation has been made.

The Indian news agency, Press Trust of India (PTI), reported the death, which was later confirmed by the Indian Embassy in an official statement released on Friday.

"It is with deep sadness that we confirm that a member of the Indian Embassy passed away on the evening of September 18, 2024," the statement read. The embassy also assured that they are working closely with the deceased officer's family and the relevant authorities to expedite the repatriation of the body to India.

The embassy further added, "Due to the privacy of the family, additional information about the deceased is not being released. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family at this difficult time."
