Moscow, Sep 21 (V7N)-  Russia has claimed that its air defense systems destroyed over 100 Ukrainian drones in a single night. The Russian Defence Ministry made the announcement in a Telegram post on Saturday, stating that the incident occurred overnight and involved fixed-wing UAVs. However, no significant damage or casualties were reported in the attack, according to AFP.

The Russian Defence Ministry detailed that 101 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed. The Bryansk region, located near the Ukrainian border, saw the highest activity, with 53 drones reportedly shot down. Another 18 drones were brought down over the Krasnodar region, particularly in Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

Alexander Bogomaz, the governor of the Bryansk region, confirmed that no damage or casualties resulted from the attack. Similarly, Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratiev reported that a fire broke out in the Tikhoretsky district after a drone scattered debris. Kondratiev assured that local residents were evacuated safely and no damage was sustained.

This drone incident is part of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which escalated after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. In recent weeks, Russia has consistently reported the downing of Ukrainian drones, indicating an intensified use of such tactics in the conflict.
