Pirojpur, July 5 (V7N)- I am living with the memories of Remal's fury. Our ramshackle shelter has been blown away. In a poverty-stricken household, just finding a handful of rice is a daily struggle, so how can we repair the house?
Profulla Chandra Shil (75), a resident of Paschim Mithakhali village in Ward 5, Betmore Rajpara Union, Mathbaria, Pirojpur, lamented during a visit to the village to witness the reality.
Upon hearing the news of Voice7 News's arrival, Krishna Chandra Bairagi (50), son of Manoranjan Bairagi from the same village, along with Minati Rani Samaddar (35), the unmarried daughter of Keshab Chandra Samaddar (100), and Sabita Rani (45), wife of Shankar Shil, rushed to meet.
Profulla Chandra Shil shared, "He is the sole breadwinner for a family of eight. His household includes his wife, two sons (one of whom is mentally disabled), a daughter-in-law, and two school-going granddaughters. Though the family lived with financial difficulties through his work in the village salon, Remal's storm has blown away everything, including the roof of their house."
The storm of Remal shattered the house of rickshaw driver Krishna Chandra Bairagi. His family of five, including two college-going children, Mukta Rani and Nirjhar Anik, are on the verge of having to stop their education. Mukta Rani and Nirjhar Anik stated, "Due to the financial strain caused by Remal's storm, our education is about to come to a halt. We can't even eat properly. The storm has destroyed our house and trees."
Minati Rani, the unmarried daughter of the hundred-year-old Keshab Chandra Samaddar, cried and said, "In a family of four, including a disabled brother and a sick centenarian father, the storm has blown away the roof of our house."
Sabita Rani mentioned, "Cooking has stopped. In a poverty-stricken household, the education of her two college-going children has become uncertain."
There is no dry place to step inside the houses of Profulla Chandra, Krishna Chandra, Sabita, and the Minatis. The whole house is flooded with rainwater. The storm has blown away their roofs. They couldn't afford to put a roof over their heads in their poverty-stricken homes. No one has come forward to help.
Betmore Rajpara Union Chairman Md. Delwar Hossain told Voice7 News, "The authorities have been informed."
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Abdul Kaiyum told Voice7 News, "Assistance will be provided if the affected apply for it."
