World Aquatics has announced that Beijing will be the host city for the 2029 World Aquatics Championships, the second time that China will stage the prestigious event after Shanghai in 2011. China also hosted the World Aquatics short course Swimming Championships in Hangzhou in 2018.

The announcement was made on Sunday, during the ongoing world championships in Doha, where China has been dominating the medal table with 16 golds out of 29 events in the first week.

The World Aquatics Championships – Beijing 2029 will feature more than 2,500 elite athletes from over 200 countries and regions, competing in six aquatic disciplines: swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, open water swimming, and high diving.

Zhou Jihong, the president of the China Swimming Association, expressed her honour and pride in hosting the world’s largest aquatics event. She said that China has a long history of welcoming and supporting the best aquatics athletes in the world.

The next two editions of the World Aquatics Championships will be held in Singapore in 2025 and Budapest in 2027.
