New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the upcoming one-day international (ODI) series against Sri Lanka due to a leg injury, just days after taking a hat-trick during a T20 match against the same opposition. Ferguson left the field for treatment shortly after claiming the hat-trick in New Zealand's series-levelling win in Dambulla.

In his absence, seamer Adam Milne has been called up to replace Ferguson and will join the squad in Dambulla ahead of Wednesday's first ODI in a three-match series. New Zealand's head coach, Gary Stead, expressed disappointment over Ferguson's injury, highlighting his valuable contribution to the team, both with the ball and in a leadership role. Stead remained hopeful for Ferguson's swift recovery and return to action.

The second and third ODIs will take place in Pallekele on November 17 and 19.
