Nov 18, (V7N) - Memphis Grizzlies rookie center Zach Edey left Sunday night’s 105-90 victory against the Denver Nuggets with a left ankle injury. The injury, initially sustained in the first half, was aggravated in the third quarter. Edey exited the game with 1:10 remaining in the third, with Memphis leading 80-62.

Edey, the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, contributed seven points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 14 minutes off the bench before his departure. The 7-foot-4 former Purdue star has been a key contributor for Memphis, averaging 11.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 20.1 minutes across 14 games, including nine starts.

The extent of Edey’s injury is yet to be determined. Coach Taylor Jenkins will provide updates as they become available. Edey previously dealt with ankle issues during the NBA Summer League.

The Grizzlies are already missing star guard Ja Morant, who has been sidelined with a hip injury sustained on Nov. 6. Morant’s status will be reevaluated on Monday, according to Jenkins.
