Nov 20 (V7N)- The Los Angeles Sparks announced the hiring of Lynne Roberts as their new head coach, signaling a fresh start after a tough 2024 season. Roberts, 49, joins the WNBA team after a successful tenure as the head coach of the University of Utah, where she led the Utes since 2015.

The Sparks parted ways with Curt Miller after finishing a league-worst 8-32 last season. Roberts, a California native, expressed excitement about leading the team.

"I am honored to be named the next head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks," Roberts said. "The Sparks have a talented roster with tremendous upside, and we will compete tirelessly for WNBA championships."

In Utah, associate head coach Gavin Petersen was promoted to head coach, taking over a program that had started its new season 3-1. Petersen has been with the Utes since 2015, working closely with Roberts during her successful run in the highly competitive Pac-12.

Sparks general manager Raegan Pebley praised Roberts' leadership, saying:

"Her ability to partner with players while creating a winning culture will translate as we continue our path toward championship contention."

The Sparks are hopeful that Roberts’ dynamic, up-tempo offensive style will help the team reclaim its status as one of the premier franchises in the WNBA.
