Hideki Matsuyama became the most successful Asian golfer on the US PGA Tour after winning the Genesis Invitational on Sunday. The Japanese star shot a stunning 62 in the final round to finish at 18-under-par, three shots clear of his nearest rivals.

Matsuyama, who had been struggling with a neck injury for months, said he was thrilled to overcome the pain and claim his ninth PGA Tour title. He also expressed his gratitude to Tiger Woods, the tournament host who was unable to attend due to illness, for his support and inspiration.

Matsuyama's victory at The Riviera Country Club, one of the most prestigious venues on the tour, was hailed as a historic achievement by golf fans and experts. He surpassed KJ Choi, who had eight PGA Tour wins, as the most decorated Asian player in the circuit. He also moved up to sixth in the world rankings, matching his career-best position.

Matsuyama, who had not won since 2017, said he hoped his win would boost his confidence and momentum for the rest of the season. He also said he was looking forward to representing Japan at the Tokyo Olympics later this year.
