MELBOURNE, Jan 21 (V7N) – After her quarter-final defeat to Paula Badosa at the Australian Open, Coco Gauff expressed a sense of clarity regarding her areas for improvement, a stark contrast to her feelings following her U.S. Open title defense last year. Gauff, who had a 13-match winning streak since her WTA Finals victory in November, fell to Badosa with a score of 7-5 6-4.

Despite the loss, the world number three felt positive about her performance, stating, "Even though I lost today, I feel like I'm on an upward trajectory." She noted that during her previous Grand Slam experience at the U.S.

Open, she played without solutions, which contributed to her frustration. In contrast, she felt more equipped to handle challenges during her matches in Melbourne.Gauff recently parted ways with her coach Brad Gilbert and began working with Matt Daly, making adjustments to her game, including changes to her grip.

However, her match against Badosa did not go as planned, as she committed 41 unforced errors and struggled with her serve, recording six double faults. "I needed to work on my serve," Gauff acknowledged, emphasizing that while her serve is not yet where she wants it to be, she has made significant improvements.

Despite the disappointment of her exit, Gauff remained optimistic, stating, "I feel like I was ready from the start of this tournament... I'm obviously disappointed, but I'm not completely crushed." She is determined to continue refining her game and looks forward to future competitions with a clearer understanding of what she needs to work on.
