The eighth seed At the ATX Open, Yuan Yue defeated sixth seed Wang Xiyu 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) to win her maiden WTA championship and an all-Chinese final.

Wang recovered from a 5-2 deficit in the second set to force a tie-break in the match in Austin, Texas, but Yuan required two hours and thirteen minutes in addition to seven championship points to overcome Wang.

Yuan had lost to American Jessica Pegula in Seoul last October in her only previous WTA final.

When Wang Qiang defeated Zheng Saisai to win the 2018 Nanchang title, the encounter became the first-ever all-Chinese WTA final. Since Zheng Jie's victory over Li Na in the 2006 Estoril championship match, it was the first ever all-Chinese final held outside of Asia.

68th in the world After trailing 2-0 in the opening set, Yuan overcame Wang, ranked 64th, on five of six break opportunities. She also won both of her breaks, winning the set with a forehand winner.

In the decisive match, Yuan led 6-1 until Wang saved three match chances, allowing Yuan to win when Wang rallied to force a second-set tie-break.

Having won the Guangzhou Open in September of the previous year in her lone other tour final, Wang was not awarded her second career WTA championship.
