Khaled Mahmud Sujon, a director at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), expressed his reservations about cricketers returning to the national team based on conditions, particularly in light of the recent situation involving opener Tamim Iqbal.
In response to Tamim's remarks following his successful campaign with Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20, Mahmud stated that it doesn't seem appropriate for a player to impose conditions for their return to the national squad.
Tamim, who previously announced his retirement from international cricket in July last year, later rescinded his decision with the involvement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sparking discussions about his potential return to the team. However, reports suggest that Tamim's return may hinge on not playing under head coach Chandika Hathurusingha.
While acknowledging the desire for Tamim's return among many, Mahmud emphasized that playing for the national team should transcend individual conditions. He highlighted that while Tamim's presence could benefit the team, the idea of players dictating terms for their inclusion raises concerns.
Mahmud expressed his concern about the prolonged discussions surrounding Tamim's return, emphasizing the player's past contributions to the team. While recognizing the importance of Tamim's potential role in the team, Mahmud questioned the logic of players stipulating conditions for their involvement.
BCB President Nazmul Hasan previously emphasized the necessity of Tamim's inclusion in the team, indicating that there is no need to consult with head coach Hathurusingha on the matter.
