London, July 09 (V7N) — Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz have advanced to the semifinals of Wimbledon 2025, keeping their championship hopes alive with strong performances in their respective quarterfinal matches on Tuesday.
Sabalenka Fights Back in Thriller
In a dramatic comeback, World No. 3 Aryna Sabalenka overcame a stern challenge from veteran German Laura Siegmund, winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in a match that lasted nearly three hours.
After breezing through the first four rounds without dropping a set, Sabalenka faced her toughest test yet against the 37-year-old Siegmund, who shocked the crowd by taking the first set and then building a 3-1 lead in the deciding set.
But Sabalenka, a three-time Grand Slam champion, dug deep to rally back and book her spot in the semifinals, demonstrating the power and resilience that have made her one of the tournament favorites.
Siegmund, despite the loss, won hearts at the All England Club with her spirited run — having never advanced past the second round in her singles career before this year.
Alcaraz Cruises into Semis
In the men’s singles draw, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz continued his dominant form, dispatching Britain’s Cameron Norrie in straight sets — 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 — in just 99 minutes.
The second-seeded Spaniard showcased his signature blend of power, speed, and finesse, silencing the home crowd with a near-flawless performance. Alcaraz, who is chasing his third consecutive Wimbledon title, now moves into the semifinals where he will face American Taylor Fritz.
With Novak Djokovic out due to injury earlier in the tournament, Alcaraz remains the top contender to retain the title and complete a rare hat-trick on the grass courts of Wimbledon.
