Bangladesh made history on Wednesday when they won their first-ever Twenty20 International match in New Zealand.

Leading the charge with three wickets from Shoriful Islam and an unbeaten 42 from Litton Das, the Tigers overcame a formidable goal of 135 in Napier to secure a historic five-wicket victory.

There were some bumps in the chase. Bangladesh lost wickets at a steady rate, but Litton held his ground and led his side home with eight balls left.

Early in the second over, Rony Talukdar (10) left the field. Despite his confident start, Najmul Hossain Shanto (19) was unable to convert. Soumya Sarkar (22) appeared to have promise as well, but Ben Sears struck him out with a fantastic delivery.

After the early dismissals of Afif Hossain (1) and Towhid Hridoy (18), Mahedi Hasan (19*) managed to stay undefeated and hit the winning stroke off Adam Milne.

Earlier, when batting first at home, Bangladesh's spinners were on fire, limiting New Zealand to 134 for nine, their lowest T20I total against them.

The Black Caps were reduced to a precarious 2 for 3 as Shoriful stunned them with two wickets in two deliveries after Mahedi struck in the opening over. Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi each contributed two wickets.

Mitchell Santner (23) and James Neesham (48) attempted to salvage the innings, but Bangladesh's relentless chase of the target proved too much for the total.

Bangladesh has made a spectacular comeback with this historic victory. They had never won a white-ball match in New Zealand before to this tour. With two straight wins on Kiwi soil, they are now proud.
