Barguna, Aug 01 (V7N) - Amid the ongoing national crisis, a Kabaddi tournament was held in Betagi, Barguna, with the slogan "End All Violence and Discrimination, Build a Peaceful and Harmonious Upazila" to inspire the new generation.
On Wednesday (July 31), the Youth Forum of Betagi Upazila organized the tournament at the Khan's Hat Market field in the remote village of Hosnabad Union, where the Kabaddi matches and award ceremonies took place.
Despite the busy urban lifestyle causing this traditional game to fade, the Khan's Hat Market field was filled with hundreds of spectators and sports enthusiasts eager to watch.
The match featured the Youth Forum XI against the Hasnabad Youth team. In the final game, the Youth Forum XI defeated the Hasnabad Youth team and emerged as the champions.
Betagi Upazila Executive Officer Faruk Ahmed presided over the event, and Betagi Upazila Parishad Chairman Md. Khalilur Rahman Khan presented the awards to the winning and runner-up teams.
Faruk Ahmed, the Upazila Executive Officer, remarked that the once-popular rural game of Kabaddi is now on the brink of extinction. He noted that Kabaddi matches used to be held in vibrant and festive environments on village roads, fields, and gardens, but such games are now rarely seen. He emphasized the need to preserve this popular game.
